How to crochet in between stitches

 

Crochet in between stitches is an alternative to crocheting through both loops, BLO, or FLO. To crochet between stitches you must insert the hook in the space between 2 stitches instead of at the top of each stitch.

YARN: Crochet thread size 5 in white, blue and red
YARDAGE / GRAMS: Less than 20g of each
HOOK: 2.25 mm (B/1) crochet hook.
GAUGE: 33 dc and 15 rows= 4 inches / 10 cm

Used stitches and abbreviations:
ch: chain    st: stitch    sc: single crochet    dc: double crochet
hdc: half double crochet    sl st: slip stitch

PATTERN

With the white yarn make a magic ring.

RND 1: Ch 1. 10 sc into the ring. Close the ring. Sl st in the first sc (not in the first ch but in the sc)._ 10 st

RND 2: Ch 1. 2 sc in each st of the Rnd.  Sl st in the first sc (not in the first ch but in the sc)._ 20 st

RND 3: Ch 1. (1 sc in each one of the next 3 st, 2 sc in the next st) repeat 4 times. Sl st in the first sc (not in the first ch but in the sc)._ 25 st

RND 4: Ch 1. 1 sc at the very first st. (1 hdc, 1 dc) in the next st. 1 tr in the next st. (1 dc, 1 hdc) in the next st. 1 sc in the next st (PICTURE 1). Ch 1. [ 1 sc in the next st. (1 hdc, 1 dc) in the next st. 1 tr in the next st. (1 dc, 1 hdc) in the next st. 1 sc in the next st, ch 1] repeat [] 3 times. Sl st in the first sc. _ 45 st

Attach the blue yarn to any of the 1-ch spaces between sc (PICTURE 2)


RND 5: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), 2 tr in that same space, sc in the next point of the star taking just the back loop.  [(2tr, 2,dc, 2 tr) in the next 1-ch space, sc in the next point of the star taking only the back loop] repeat [] 3 times. (2 tr, 1 dc) in the next 1-ch space. Sl st in the 3rd ch of the first dc. _ 35 st

RND 6: Ch 3 (counts as a dc), (2 dc in the next st, 1 dc in the next st) repeat () 15 times. 2 dc in the next st. Sl st in the 3rd ch of the first dc. _ 52 st
Change to color red

RND 7: Ch 3 (counts as a dc). (Dc in the next 2 st, 2 dc in the next st) repeat () 16 times. 1 dc in the next st . Sl st in the 3rd ch of the first dc.  _ 69 st
Change to color white

RND 8: Ch 1, sc, ch 2 (counts as a dc).  (Dc in the next 3 st, 2 dc in the next st) repeat () 16 times. 1 dc in the next st . Sl st in the 3rd ch of the first dc.   _ 86 st
Change to color red

RND 9: Ch 3 (counts as a dc). (Dc in the next 4 st, 2 dc in the next st) repeat () 16 times. 1 dc in the next st . Sl st in the 3rd ch of the first dc.   _ 103 st

Finish off and hide the yarn.
